Research has been conducted at UAB on oral health care issues for those with developmental disabilities (DD). The results of all these studies shows that individuals with DD have poorer dental health than others and greater difficulty accessing care, especially those from disadvantaged and diverse populations.
The purpose of this project is twofold
- Develop a plan to assist those who care for persons with DD in the daily home dental therapy of these special individuals. This plan is tailored on an individual basis to better meet the needs of each person.
- Insure equal access to quality, state of the art, dental care to those with DD and lessen the gap in oral health between those with DD and the rest of the population.
