Continuing Education
A low-cost Continuing Education course is offered to practicing dentists to assist them with treatment of patients with disabilities. In 2008, the first run of the course had 68 registrants. It has been offered in 2009 and 2010 and was well-attended and well-received. Information for the 2011 course is described below.
Course Name: Dental Care for Children and Adults with Special Needs
Course Description:
Purpose of the Course: Through funding from the Alabama Council on Developmental Disabilities, Montgomery, Alabama, we are offering a course and CEU credit free of charge for training and education in the management of special needs patients, such as children and adults with cerebral palsy, developmental delays, genetic disorders, medical issues, etc. Attendees will only be asked to evaluate the learning experience after the course and sometimes later in the year to see what, if any, impact it may have on access and dental case for those with special needs in their practice. Tuition is partially funded by a grant.
CE Hours: 6
Limited Attendance of 60 participants. It is preferred that the dentist and hygiene team attend together but is not required.
