Description of Activities 

This project has 3 main goals with activities tied to each goal

Goal 1: Improve the oral health of children and adults with developmental disabilities

Activities for Goal 1 include:

• Specialized training courses for Alabama dentists
• Workshops on daily care and practices of good oral health for those with developmental disabilities
• Courses and rotations for dental students, to expose them to special needs patients

Goal 2: Develop a model for daily home dental care in the prevention of dental caries and periodontal diseases based on the compliance level of the patient

Activities for Goal 2 include:

• Work with those with developmental disabilities to create a tailored daily plan for the prevention of dental disease based on compliance level
• Publish project information via national journals, presentations, and this web site

Goal 3: Provide a single source of information on Dental Health for those with special needs that can be easily utilized by parents, caregivers, healthcare and educational professionals, physicians and dentists

Activities for Goal 3 include:

• The development of this web site will serve to provide resources for caretakers of disabled patients, basic information about dental care, and information tailored to the special needs of each patient
