Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

Ken Tilashalski, DMD (best known as “Dr. T”) is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the UAB School of Dentistry. After receiving his DMD from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Tilashalski completed residencies in both Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Endodontics along with an American Cancer Society fellowship at UAB. He holds dual appointments within both the dental and medical schools.
Dr. T lectures extensively at the School of Dentistry and around the University in oral pathology, endodontics, dental assisting, medical systems, and the postgraduate programs (dental, medicine, & UAB’s graduate school). He serves as the director of multiple courses including Entry Level Clinical Skills, D2 Clinical Integration, Oral Medicine & Radiology, and National Board Review: Part II. In addition, he supervises students in the School’s urgent care clinic. He enjoys providing continuing education courses locally, throughout Alabama, and nationally. Dr. T was honored as a recipient of the UAB President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
In his role as the School’s Academic Dean, he chairs the following committees: Academic Performance, Curriculum, High-intensity Learning & Mentoring Program, and Postgraduate Dental Education. He also serves on the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, Intramural Professional Practice, and Bay Task Force committees as well as the Instructional Design Working Group, and the Dean’s and the Executive Councils. He is the dental school’s liaison for WEAVE (the University’s web-based assessment management system) and the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE). He was recently selected to serve on the ADA ad hoc Review Committee on the Validity of NBDE Part II.
