Recently the number of hours needed in continuing medical education (CME) to maintain state licensure has increased. For the state of Alabama this is 25 hours per year. The number of hours in continuing dental education (CDE) remains at 20 hours in the state of Alabama. Many individuals must maintain both a medical and dental license and thus obtain a minimum number of hours in CDE and CME. Beginning this academic year the UAB Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will institute OMS Grand Rounds and offer both continuing dental education credits as well as continuing medical education credits. We will host the regular Grand Rounds session one Tuesday a month for an hour and half. We will also have several other sessions throughout the year that range anywhere from four hours to twelve hours. We hope this will significantly help the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery community.
