K. David Stillwell, DDS, MAGD

Dr. Stillwell currently serves as Assistant Director, University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital General Dentistry Residency Program and as Associate Professor in UAB’s Department of General Dental Sciences. He earned his dental degree from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 1983 and completed a General Practice Residency at the University Of Colorado School Of Dentistry in 1984. He supervises six general dentistry residents five days per week and schedules private patients on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday mornings.

Dr. Stillwell maintained a private practice from 1984 to 2003, focusing on hospital dentistry, implantology and family care. He shifted his emphasis to full-time academics in 2003. He was recognized both in 2003 and 2004 as Clinical Instructor of the Year while at UMKC School of Dentistry, also receiving the UMKCSOD “Distinguished Teacher Award” in 2004. In 2008, he was awarded the University of Florida Superior Accomplishment Award. He was conferred his mastership status in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1998 and was a national recipient of the 2007 Academy of General Dentistry’s Lifetime Learning and Service Recognition Award.

Dr. Stillwell has broad public service experience in many different local, state, and national community organizations. He actively follows matters related to dental legislation, dental advocacy, student education, and access to care. He continues to accept new patients into his faculty practice in our Hospital Dentistry clinic, which is located immediately across the street from the dental school. As a general dentist, his areas of interest include adult special needs patients, medically complex geriatric care, oral sedation, operating room dental procedures, and full mouth reconstructive procedures including bone grafting, implant placement, and restoration.
