Patient Information
Treatment at the UAB School of Dentistry is rendered by students under the supervision of faculty members. Only patients whose dental needs match our clinical program objectives and who have the necessary time for treatment are accepted as new patients. A screening visit is necessary to determine if your dental treatment can be managed by our clinical programs
Research is an important part of the School of Dentistry’s mission. Faculty members, graduate students, and dental students are engaged in research work on diseases of the mouth and teeth; improved methods of treatment; and dental materials and equipment. As a result of such research in the school and in other similar institutions, the quality of dental service available to people everywhere is improving constantly.
Our Mission
Dental service to the public is a very important part of the teaching program at the School of Dentistry. It serves a twofold purpose:
- To train dentists for private offices, hospitals, the armed forces, and public health agencies.
- To meet, in part, the dental needs of the community.
Interpretation Services
The School of Dentistry provides interpretation services for hearing-impaired and visually impaired patients. Except in cases of dental emergency, we request advance notice 48 hours before treatment time in order to arrange an interpreter for a treatment visit. Interpretation services are provided through the phone-based CyraCom system, which offers a connection to medically certified interpreters in 114 languages. CyraCom is the leading provider in healthcare interpretation and is exclusively endorsed by the American Hospital Association.
Patient Rights and Responsibilities
The School of Dentistry provides the highest quality care possible for each of its patients. Our students, faculty, and staff are committed to patient involvement in their dental care.
