National SRG President's Address

(From the NSRG Newsletter, for the complete newsletter, follow the link below)

Hello everyone! I hope that you are having an enjoyable and productive summer, and you are ready to start a new year in your education.

For those of you completing summer research projects, you are encouraged to submit your work to the AADR/CADR Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Washington, DC, March 3-6, 2010. For those of you with international aspirations, consider the IADR General Session & Exhibition in Barcelona, July 14-17. Please refer to the meetings section of this newsletter for more details. In the coming months, you will receive reminders about abstracts submission procedures and deadlines.

Have you noticed something new about this newsletter? We have expanded our AADR NSRG branding campaign to include this template.

Also included in this newsletter are the details for several research opportunities. The fall Hinman Student Research Symposium in Memphis, Tenn., will be held October 30-November 1, 2009. There is also information in this newsletter regarding the AADR NSRG student awards, the Newsletter Contest and the Mentor Award.

I would like to introduce the newly appointed NSRG Members-at-Large. Bryan Chai is a fourth-year D.D.S./Ph.D. student at the University of Maryland and Kaitrin Baloue is a second-year D.D.S./Ph.D. student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. We are excited to have them on the Board and have already been impressed by their leadership abilities.

I would also like to introduce the NSRG regional representatives. Regional representation is a new initiative by the NSRG to aid in communications between the Board and local chapters. Local chapter presidents can expect a personal e-mail from their regional representative in the coming month. This year's representatives are:

  • Nick Wilson (Greater Midwest Region, University of Colorado)
  • Laura Sharbash (Keystone Region, University at Buffalo)
  • Todd Walker (New England Region, Tufts University)
  • Hamed Ghorbani-Moghaddam (Pacific Region, University of California, Los Angeles)
  • Camille Sandifer (Southeast Region, University of Mississippi)
  • Heather Luong (Southwestern Region, University of Texas at Houston/Health Science Center)
  • Jeremy Horst (Northwestern Region, University of Washington)

The NSRG Board members will hold their next executive meeting on August 22, 2009, at the AADR headquarters in Alexandria, Va. We have several issues slated for the meeting including: modernization of the AADR annual meeting session format, establishing better communication with local chapters, and publishing the results from past NSRG surveys. Updates of our progress will be available in the November newsletter and hopefully, via a published manuscript.

Please contact us with any questions or comments.
